The Basics

How do students connect with advisors?

When students indicate their preferences (industry, location, major, etc.), the software’s matching engine presents students with a list of advisors who match the students’ criteria. Students can then request to contact a potential advisor.

What kind of responsibilities will I have while participating in WiN?

WiN enables similar-minded students and alumni to find each other. Students, if you are interacting with an advisor, you can expect to conduct an informational interview or to ask questions via email, phone, or skype.

What if I forgot my username and password?

Select "forgot password" by the login button on the homepage. You will receive an email allowing you to reset your password. If you are still having trouble, email us at win@wheaton.edu or give us a call at (630) 752-5047.

Why was I declined?

There are a variety of reasons why your requested contact might have declined you, most of which probably have nothing to do with you personally. It may be an especially busy time for him/her. Don't get discouraged. Just go back into WiN and search for other

Can I access WiN when logged in to my.wheaton.edu?

At this point, WiN is not linked to my.wheaton.edu.

Why is the career field I'm interested in not listed?

We have deliberately limited the career field categories because too many choices can hamper the matching process. For instance, if the list were more extensive, then fewer advisors on average will match the selected career field and show up in your "results" list. There is a special criterion labeled "Specific Career Field" that can help narrow down your results.

Are there any limits to the numbers of advisors I can have at one time?

There are no limits to the number of connections you can have at once.

I've tried to log in but I can't access my account. What's going on?

Students must go to a WiN workshop before gaining access to their WiN accounts. When you sign up, you will be prompted to select a workshop time that works best for your schedule. If you are still having trouble and you have attended a workshop, please contact us at win@wheaton.edu.

What if there is a problem with my advisor?

If you are experiencing any problems in your relationship or have any questions, please notify the WiN team as soon as possible so we can help you. We want you to have a safe and helpful experience, and often we can intervene and work toward possible solutions that will improve the relationship. If you encounter any inappropriate behavior, contact WiN at win@wheaton.edu immediately.

Advisors

I've heard alumni can connect with fellow alumni on WiN. How does this work?

Alumni are able to search for and contact fellow alumni on WiN. Connections can be made based on shared personal or professional interests. You can choose whether you'd like to be able to connect with both alumni and students, or just students.

I've signed up as an advisor. Why haven't I been contacted yet?

Thank you for registering. We are grateful for your willingness to help students in this way. After you register for WiN, it could take some time before you are matched with a student, since this is a student-driven program. If you are an alumnus, you are able to search for and contact other alumni through WiN. Connections can be made through shared personal or professional interests.

What is an Advisor?

Advisors contribute by using their experience to answer questions and to give advice. Advisors engage and inform students in a way that encourages students to explore their options for post-Wheaton life.
